At our school, we use Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS* as our agreed synthetic phonics scheme for teaching phonics in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1. ELS is a highly effective, systematic phonics programme designed to help children develop their reading and writing skills through the clear and consistent teaching of sounds and letters. By using a structured approach, we ensure that all children, regardless of their starting point, have the opportunity to become fluent readers and confident writers. This programme supports children in mastering the essential skills they need for early literacy, setting a strong foundation for their continued learning journey.
