British Values
The "fundamental British values" are democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are promoted in our school to prepare our young people for life in modern Britain. They underpin what it means to be a citizen in a diverse and inclusive society.
This mnemonic helps us to remember all of the British Values:
I Really Do Matter
Individual Liberty
Rule of Law
Democracy
Mutual Respect & Tolerance
Children receive exclusive teaching on British Values in Well-being and Relationship lessons as well as these values being reflected and promoted in all lessons and across the life of the school. Picture News discussions in Class Worship on Thursdays provides fantastic opportunities to discuss and practice these values as children learn to form and share opinions, listen to and respect each others' view points, as well as hold debates and votes. The children learn that we are all unique and we can be friends with people that have very different beliefs, and are inspired by stories and learn how to respectfully challenge things that we disagree with. We want our children to understand our British Values and be the ones to have the courage to take action to make changes.
