Oak Class welcome Mrs Faizan

January 27, 2015

understandislamOak Class have been learning about ‘Pilgrimages’ as part of their Religious Education studies.  They have learnt about what pilgrimages are and how they have all been on a pilgrimage in their lives (memorial, football match, relative etc).  Part of their learning was researching about the Muslim pilgrimage of Hajj.  The children really engaged and were inquisitive about this topic and they are currently writing letters as part of their literacy work, imagining they have been to Mecca as part of the Hajj Pilgrimage.  As a class the children had lots of questions about Islam which Mr Stewart struggled to answer, to enable the children to research the answers to these questions, Mrs Faizan, a parent of a pupil in class visited the children today to share her experiences of Islam and living in Pakistan.  The children spent an hour with Mrs Faizan asking lots of interesting questions, which Mrs Faizan answered in detail and the children learnt lots about, currency, clothes, foods and even the television programs Mrs Faizan watches.  Mrs Faizan wrote words in Urdu which amazed the children, she has kindly volunteered to write the children’s names in Urdu so the children can practice writing their names in Urdu, Oak Class will also be welcoming Mrs Faizan back in the Summer Term to use our produce from the school garden to make traditional Asian Cuisine using all her amazing spices!
