Joint School Council Meeting

May 9, 2014

Earlier today our Year 5 School Council members; Sophie, Dorina and Emily along with Mrs Philipson and Miss Mawson, visited the Civic Centre and Council Chambers to take part in a joint school council meeting with other schools from our cluster.

The meeting began with a talk from our current Mayor; Councillor Ray Bloxham, who told the children all about his role as Mayor. They also met the Leader of Carlisle City Council; Councillor Colin Glover, who talked about the roles within the council and how he was appointed Leader.

Each School Council then gave a short presentation about ‘What they like about Carlisle’. Unfortunately the girls didn’t get to use their powerpoint but did talk about each slide. Their presentation can be seen below. Miss Mawson and Mrs Philipson were very pleased with the girls, who spoke confidently and clearly to their audience using the fancy microphones!

Hopefully the event will be shown on itv Border news over the next couple of days so please keep a look out for it. Interviews may also be on Radio Cumbria and an article in the News and Star.

It was a great experience for the children and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They will be feeding back to our School Council at their next meeting before the end of term.
