Dear Basketball

This week Birch class have been learning about the different types of Poetry. This was a perfect opportunity to teach the children about a poem called ‘Dear Basketball’ written by the late great Basketball player Kobe Bryant. The children analysed the poem looking and inferring the different language used and thinking about Bryant’s feelings when he wrote it. Next, the children watched the short animation film based around the poem. The class then talked about Bryant’s attitude, resilience and mentality. The children then took part in the ‘Kobe Challenge’, where the children wrote down something they are nervous or scared about on a piece of paper and scrunched it up into a ball and threw it away into the bin while shouting ‘Kobe’ The children loved looking at the poem and learning about someone new, they left the classroom empowered! #poetry #resilience #mamba-mentality 📖🏀
