Show Racism the Red Card

November 29, 2013

Show-Racism-the-Red-Card_largeYear 6 recently had the opportunity to attend the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ day, held at Brunton Park. ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ is a national programme sponsored and promoted by professional football clubs and the football association . It is aimed at educating children and young people about racism; what it is and the effects and consequences it can have. The children had an amazing day which included lots of different activities that they said really made them think carefully about the issues that were raised. The activities included a passionate speech from recently retired professional footballer (and Countdown winner!) Clarke Carlisle, who is an ambassador for the scheme and works for the PFA and some team building football games. The day finished with the children being journalists and interviewing a panel of special guests. Some very thoughtful questions were asked and points raised.
