On Wednesday (7th October), Rowan Class, with Mrs Murdoch’s help, began their Design and Technology topic – Healthy Eating and Cooking Skills’. The children began the topic by making three different soups: Carrot and Corriander; Apple and Parsnip and Leek and Potato. The children worked in groups to follow the recipes, prepare, peel and chop the ingredients and make their soup. The children started to learn valuable cooking skills, which they will continue to develop over the topic, including how to work safely with sharp knives, other  kitchen utensils and hot ovens and hobs. The children really enjoyed making the healthy soups and tasting them all – the Leek and Potato was the clear favourite – and some tried making more that evening at home. Next week, the children will have to design and make a healthy pasta dish, including Spaghetti Bolognese! We can’t wait.
