Last Friday, all of our Year 6 children participated in the course ‘First Aid in a Day’. The course was led by a member of the St John’s Ambulance (‘Lenny’, whom the children thought was brilliant and funny) and covered aspects of basic and emergency first aid. The children said they found the day “fascinating and fun” and that they learnt some very important skills which they may one day use to save a life. Among other things, the children learnt what to do when they encountered an unresponsive casualty, how to check airway, breathing and circulation, the recovery position, how to help somebody choking, bandaging and what to do with cuts, bruises and burns. A very valuable day!
